Tom Flynn is an International DJ, Remixer and Producer based in the UK. His works have been released on such labels as Hypercolour, Dirtybird, Viva Music and Mobilee and have been recognized by some of the world’s best DJs; Pete Tong, Steve Lawler, Richie Hawtin, to name a few. He is considered to be one of the most forward thinking Producers in House Music Producing and DJing anything from Deep House to Techno. Here’s what he had to say:

Mark Vicente: What was your first Club Experience like?
Tom Flynn: If I remember rightly I went to see Judge Jules in my hometown at Gods Kitchen, it was cool to see night world at first hand.

Mark Vicente: Why is Club Culture/ Nightlife important in society?
Tom Flynn: It’s a release. People work hard all week and see that time as a release. from this side we don’t see it like that so much. It also entwines into fashion and art, like the minimal trend for example which had a big knock on from the minimal art work in Germany.

Mark Vicente: What continues to inspire you as a DJ and Producer?
Tom Flynn: Life. Everything around me, the people I meet, things I see or hear when I’m out or on tour. Other genres influence me a lot.

Mark Vicente: What are the qualities in an exceptional DJ?
Tom Flynn: Taste. Pure and simple. If you’ve got awful taste you’ll be a shit DJ. You also need to know how to work a room, how to take the vibe of the room up and down. I see my job as like a conductor of an orchestra, you’re basically telling the crowd when to lift it up and when to chill out, the only difference is we do it through records.

Mark Vicente: What kind of experience can people expect from a Tom Flynn party?
Tom Flynn: My own parties are in the pipeline, as for my DJ sets, just good house and techno!!

Mark Vicente: Words of advice to any bedroom DJ wanting to transition into a real club setting?
Tom Flynn: Know your records, develop your taste via other genres, and if you still have shit taste, don’t push it on other people!
